The site of Phil’s Plaice at 165 Leeds Road, Glasshoughton, Castleford has been a Fish & Chip Shop since the 1960’s. I purchased the business back in 2019 with a view to producing the best Fish & Chips in the area.
To enable us to prosper it was essential to refit the whole shop and give it a fresh new modern look whilst maintaining it’s traditional feel. This is what I believe has been done and the shop now has the latest in digital screens, LED lighting and hygienic ceiling walls and floors.
We maintain our 5 star food hygiene rating which means our premises and practises are safely managed and that our customers can purchase with confidence.
Our food may contain allergens, therefore we have a comprehensive allergens booklet that covers all ingredients in our products. Please ask a member of staff if you are unsure.
It is our principle to source the best quality fish available from sustainable fishing grounds by responsible trawler operators. Our skinless Cod is caught in the seas around Iceland and Norway and supplied to us via respected Fish Merchants. We cook in best Beef dripping and the crispiest batter.
Our chips are supplied by a trusted and well established local Potato merchant who works closely with the farmers to ensure our chips are of the highest quality when they reach our customers plates.
Phil’s Plaice also offers accompaniments to our Fish & Chips with fruit free ‘Chip Shop’ Curry, a smooth and spicy ‘Irish Curry’ along with Gravy and our own homemade tasty Mushy Peas. Of course we also have a selection of sauces too!
Other products available on our menu include Wholetail Scampi, Sausage (plain or battered), a selection of Pies, Chicken Nuggets, Spam fritters and Fishcakes – either Parsley or our homemade ‘Yorkshire’ Fishcakes. No Chippy would be complete without providing breadcakes to make butties and we have a daily delivery large ‘Scufflers’ from a Castleford bakery to ensure your satisfaction.
Phil’s Plaice is open from 11:15am until 8pm Monday to Friday and 11:15am until 7pm Saturday.
We are able to take telephone orders for collection and we also offer a delivery service via Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats platforms.
Please note that our priority is always to our walk-in customers and phone orders and deliveries are suspended during our busiest periods.
